Gametes are specialized reproductive cells, also known as sex cells, that carry half the number of chromosomes of a normal cell. There are two types:

* Sperm: Male gamete

* Egg: Female gamete

The fusion of a sperm and egg during fertilization marks the beginning of a new organism and initiates the sexual life cycle.
