  • Understanding Scientific Questions: Empirical & Theoretical
    Here are two types of questions that can be answered in science:

    1. Empirical Questions: These questions focus on observable phenomena and can be tested through experiments or observations. They are about the "what" and "how" of the natural world.

    * Examples:

    * How does light affect plant growth?

    * What is the chemical composition of water?

    * How do birds migrate?

    2. Theoretical Questions: These questions explore the underlying principles and mechanisms that govern the natural world. They delve into the "why" and "how come" of phenomena.

    * Examples:

    * Why do planets orbit the sun in an elliptical path?

    * How did life on Earth originate?

    * What is the fundamental nature of gravity?

    It's important to note that while science can answer both types of questions, the methods used might differ. Empirical questions are answered through direct observation and experimentation, while theoretical questions often require complex models and mathematical frameworks.
