  • Carbohydrates: The Primary Energy Source for Living Cells
The macromolecule that fuels almost all living cells is carbohydrates.

    Here's why:

    * Energy Storage: Carbohydrates, particularly glucose, are the primary source of energy for cellular processes. Cells break down glucose through cellular respiration to produce ATP, the energy currency of the cell.

    * Efficiency: Carbohydrates are readily available and relatively easy for cells to break down and use for energy.

    * Versatility: Carbohydrates serve other roles in cells besides energy, such as structural components (like cellulose in plant cell walls) and signaling molecules.

While other macromolecules like fats and proteins can also be used for energy, carbohydrates are the most common and efficient fuel source for the vast majority of living cells.
