  • Plant Root Anatomy: Understanding Vascular and Ground Tissues
The two main tissues that make up a plant root are:

    1. Vascular tissue: This is responsible for transporting water and nutrients throughout the plant. It consists of two components:

    * Xylem: Transports water and dissolved minerals from the roots to the rest of the plant.

    * Phloem: Transports sugars produced by photosynthesis from the leaves to other parts of the plant.

    2. Ground tissue: This tissue fills the space between the vascular tissue and the outer layer of the root. It provides support and storage, and it contains cells that perform photosynthesis.

These two tissues work together to provide the root with its essential functions.
