  • Photosynthesis: What Plants Produce & Why It Matters
    Photosynthesis doesn't "turn into" anything. It's a process, not a substance.

    Here's what photosynthesis does:

    It takes in:

    * Carbon dioxide (CO2): From the air

    * Water (H2O): From the soil

    * Sunlight: As energy

    And it produces:

    * Glucose (C6H12O6): A type of sugar, which is the plant's food

    * Oxygen (O2): Released into the atmosphere

    So, you could say that photosynthesis converts carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen, using sunlight as the energy source.
