  • Heterotrophs: Understanding Animal-Like Protists & Their Diet
Animal-like protists eat other organisms, so they are classified as heterotrophs.

    Here's why:

    * Heterotrophs are organisms that cannot produce their own food and must obtain nutrients by consuming other organisms.

    * Autotrophs, on the other hand, can produce their own food through photosynthesis.

Animal-like protists, also known as protozoa, are a diverse group with various feeding strategies. Some engulf their prey whole (phagocytosis), while others absorb nutrients from their surroundings.
