  • Producers in Ecosystems: How Plants Fuel Life
The organisms that produce their own food and supply other organisms in an ecosystem with energy and nutrients are called producers.

The most common example of producers are plants. They use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide through the process of photosynthesis to create their own food (glucose) and release oxygen as a byproduct. This energy stored in the glucose is then passed on to other organisms in the food chain.

    Other examples of producers include:

    * Algae: These tiny organisms are found in aquatic ecosystems and also produce food through photosynthesis.

    * Some bacteria: Certain bacteria, like cyanobacteria, are capable of photosynthesis and are important producers in some environments.
