  • Natural Selection: Darwin, Wallace, and the Theory of Evolution
The concept of natural selection is most closely associated with Charles Darwin, who first described it in detail in his groundbreaking book "On the Origin of Species" published in 1859.

However, it's important to note that Darwin wasn't the only person who had ideas about natural selection.

    * Alfred Russel Wallace, another British naturalist, independently developed a similar theory around the same time as Darwin. He co-authored a paper with Darwin in 1858 that presented their findings.

    * Patrick Matthew, a Scottish botanist, published a description of natural selection in 1831, but his work was largely overlooked.

While Darwin is often credited with the theory of natural selection, it's important to acknowledge the contributions of others who also played a role in its development.
