  • Plant Seed Development: From Ovules to Embryo - A Clear Explanation
Seeds in a plant are formed from the fertilization of ovules.

    Here's why:

    * Ovules: These are the female reproductive structures within a flower. They contain the egg cell.

    * Fertilization: When pollen (containing sperm cells) from the male part of the flower (anther) reaches the ovule, the sperm fertilizes the egg cell.

    * Seed Formation: The fertilized ovule develops into a seed, which contains the embryo (the future plant) and a food source (endosperm) for its initial growth.

Fruits develop from the ovary of the flower, which is located below the ovules. While fruits can contain seeds, they are not the direct result of fertilization. The ovary expands and ripens to form the fruit, often serving to protect and disperse the seeds.
