  • Dendrites: The Neuron's Information Receivers - Structure & Function
The branching structures that carry information toward the cell body of a neuron are called dendrites.

    Here's why:

    * Dendrites are the tree-like extensions that receive signals from other neurons or sensory receptors. These signals are then transmitted towards the cell body.

    * Axons are the long, slender projections that carry signals away from the cell body to other neurons, muscles, or glands.

So, while both dendrites and axons are branching structures, their functions are distinct and opposite in terms of signal direction.
