  • Major Salivary Glands: Location, Function & Types
There are three large pairs of salivary glands:

    1. Parotid glands: These are the largest salivary glands and are located in front of the ears. They produce a watery saliva rich in amylase, an enzyme that breaks down carbohydrates.

    2. Submandibular glands: These glands are located under the jaw and produce a mixed saliva that is both watery and viscous.

    3. Sublingual glands: These are the smallest of the major salivary glands and are located under the tongue. They produce a thick, viscous saliva that is rich in mucin, a lubricating substance.

Let me know if you'd like to know more about any of these glands!
