  • Photosynthesis: Inputs & Outputs - A Comprehensive Guide
Photosynthesis is the process by which plants, algae, and some bacteria use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to create their own food (glucose) and release oxygen as a byproduct. So, what photosynthesis "gets" are:

    * Sunlight: The energy source that powers the process.

    * Carbon dioxide: The source of carbon atoms used to build sugars.

    * Water: A source of electrons and hydrogen atoms used in the process.

These three inputs allow photosynthesis to produce:

    * Glucose: A sugar molecule that serves as the plant's food source.

    * Oxygen: A byproduct released into the atmosphere.

In essence, photosynthesis gets the ingredients it needs to create its own food and release a vital gas for other living organisms.
