  • Monotremes: The Egg-Laying Mammals of Australia & New Guinea
    The mammalian group that lays eggs is called the monotremes.

    There are only five living species of monotremes, all found in Australia and New Guinea:

    * Echidnas (short-beaked echidna and long-beaked echidna)

    * Platypus

    Monotremes are unique mammals as they share characteristics with reptiles, such as laying eggs, but also have mammalian features like having fur and producing milk.
