  • Glycogen Synthase: The Enzyme That Converts Glucose to Glycogen
    Glycogen synthase.

Glycogen synthase is the enzyme that is responsible for the synthesis of glycogen from glucose. This enzyme adds glucose molecules to the glycogen molecule, one at a time, in a process called glycogenogenesis. Glycogen is a polysaccharide that is used as a storage form of glucose in both plants and animals. When the body needs energy, glycogen can be broken down to release glucose, which can then be used for energy production.
