  • Confirmation Bias in Biology: Understanding Its Impact
Confirmation bias is the tendency to search for or interpret information that confirms one's own preconceptions or beliefs. In science, this can prevent researchers from seeing the actual results of their experiments, leading to false conclusions. For example, a researcher who believes that a certain drug will cure a disease may only look for evidence that supports this hypothesis and ignore or dismiss evidence that suggests the drug does not work.
