  • Thylakoid Cells: Structure, Function & Plant Biology
    The cell that is closely stacked, flattened sacs (plants only) is the thylakoid. Thylakoids are internal membrane-bound structures in the chloroplasts of plant and algae cells. They contain chlorophyll and other light-absorbing pigments used during photosynthesis. Thylakoids are stacked in columns called grana, a distinctive feature in chloroplast ultrastructure.
