  • Allopatric Speciation: Understanding Geographic Isolation
Allopatric speciation occurs when two populations of a species become geographically isolated from each other and can no longer interbreed. This can happen when a physical barrier, such as a mountain range or a river, separates the two populations. Over time, the two populations can evolve independently and become so different that they can no longer interbreed even if they come back into contact.
