  • Guillemot Chicks: Why They Jump-Glide from Cliffs (and How They Survive)
Guillemots do not leap from the nest but 'jump-glide'. Guillemot chicks are precocial, meaning they hatch with their eyes open and are able to walk and swim almost immediately. In order to escape from predators, guillemot chicks will leave their nest, which is typically located on a cliff, and jump and glide down the cliff to safety.
