A recent study has concluded that dogs and wolves may not be capable of understanding human reputation. The research, conducted by a team of scientists from the University of Vienna, sought to determine whether these animals could understand the concept of social reputation and adjust their behavior accordingly. The study involved playing audio recordings of two voices to dogs and wolves, with one voice speaking positively about a third individual and the other speaking negatively. The results revealed that neither species demonstrated a preference for the voice that spoke positively, suggesting that they may not have understood the concept of reputation. However, the researchers acknowledge that further studies with larger sample sizes are needed to fully understand the cognitive capabilities of dogs and wolves in this regard.
