  • The Sun's Corona: Source of Extreme UV and X-ray Radiation
The region of the Sun that is the source of extreme ultraviolet light and x-ray emissions is the corona.

    Here's why:

    * Temperature: The corona is the outermost layer of the Sun's atmosphere. It has a remarkably high temperature of millions of degrees Kelvin, much hotter than the Sun's surface (photosphere).

    * High Energy Emissions: The extremely high temperature of the corona causes the atoms in this region to become highly ionized. This ionization leads to the emission of high-energy photons, including extreme ultraviolet (EUV) and X-rays.

While other regions of the Sun emit some radiation in these wavelengths, the corona is by far the most significant source.
