  • Understanding Electromagnetic Radiation in Space: Properties & Behavior
Electromagnetic radiation traveling through space does all of the following:

    * Travels at the speed of light: This is a fundamental property of electromagnetic radiation.

    * Doesn't require a medium: Unlike sound waves, which need a medium like air or water to travel, electromagnetic radiation can travel through the vacuum of space.

    * Consists of oscillating electric and magnetic fields: These fields are perpendicular to each other and to the direction of propagation.

    * Carries energy: This energy can be transferred to matter when the radiation interacts with it.

    * Can behave like both a wave and a particle: This is known as wave-particle duality.
