  • Lord Rayleigh: The 19th-Century Physicist Who Explained the Blue Sky
The 19th century Irish physicist who explained why the sky is blue is Lord Rayleigh, also known as John William Strutt.

He developed the theory of Rayleigh scattering, which explains how light interacts with particles in the atmosphere. He showed that shorter wavelengths of light (like blue and violet) scatter more effectively than longer wavelengths (like red and orange). This scattering effect is why we see a blue sky during the day.
