  • Star Color Sequence: Understanding Stellar Cooling & Temperatures
The order of color that describes cooling stars is:

    Blue → White → Yellow → Orange → Red

This is because a star's color is directly related to its surface temperature.

    * Blue stars are the hottest, with surface temperatures of over 25,000°C.

    * White stars are slightly cooler, with temperatures between 10,000°C and 25,000°C.

    * Yellow stars, like our Sun, have temperatures between 5,500°C and 10,000°C.

    * Orange stars are cooler still, with temperatures between 3,500°C and 5,500°C.

    * Red stars are the coolest, with temperatures below 3,500°C.

As stars age and fuse their nuclear fuel, they cool down, causing their color to shift towards the red end of the spectrum.
