  • Why Does Sunset Occur Later on the East Coast?
It's a common misconception that the sun sets earlier on the east coast of the United States compared to the west coast. Actually, the opposite is true. The sun sets later on the east coast than on the west coast.

    Here's why:

    * Earth's Rotation: The Earth rotates from west to east. This means the east coast faces the sun first, experiencing sunrise before the west coast. Conversely, the west coast faces the sun last, experiencing sunset after the east coast.

    * Time Zones: The United States uses multiple time zones to accommodate the difference in sunrise and sunset times across the country. The east coast is in the Eastern Time Zone, while the west coast is in the Pacific Time Zone. Because of this, the east coast is 3 hours ahead of the west coast.

Therefore, while the west coast sees the sun first, the east coast experiences sunset 3 hours later due to the time difference.
