  • Why Does the Sun Dominate Gravity in Our Solar System?
The Sun is the primary gravitational force in the solar system because:

    * It has the most mass. Gravity is directly proportional to mass. The Sun accounts for over 99.8% of the total mass in the solar system. This means it has a much stronger gravitational pull than any other object in the system.

    * Its immense mass creates a vast gravitational well. Think of it like a giant bowling ball sitting on a trampoline, causing a deep dip. Planets and other objects are trapped within this gravitational well and are constantly pulled towards the Sun.

This immense gravitational pull is what keeps the planets in their orbits and prevents them from drifting off into space. It also influences the formation of the solar system, the movement of comets and asteroids, and even the internal structure of planets.
