  • Big Dipper: Understanding the Plow Constellation & Ursa Major
The group of stars commonly known as the "Plow" is actually the Big Dipper.

While the Big Dipper is technically an asterism (a recognizable pattern of stars), it's part of the larger constellation Ursa Major, the Great Bear.

The "Plow" name is more common in North America, while other parts of the world use names like "Plough" or "Dipper" for the same constellation.
