  • Antares Star Composition: Elements and Structure
Antares, a red supergiant star, is primarily composed of the same elements as our Sun and most other stars:

    * Hydrogen (H): The most abundant element, making up about 70% of its mass.

    * Helium (He): The second most abundant element, comprising about 28% of its mass.

However, unlike our Sun, Antares has been fusing hydrogen into helium for billions of years, and has begun fusing heavier elements in its core. These heavier elements include:

    * Carbon (C): A significant portion of its mass.

    * Oxygen (O): Also present in significant amounts.

    * Nitrogen (N): Found in smaller proportions.

It's important to note that the exact proportions of these elements can vary depending on the star's age, mass, and evolutionary stage. However, these elements are the main constituents of Antares and other red supergiants.
