  • Does the Moon's Far Side Ever See Sunlight? Understanding Lunar Rotation
The far side of the moon always receives sunlight, but we never see it from Earth.

    Here's why:

    * Tidal Locking: The Moon is tidally locked to Earth, meaning the same side always faces us.

    * Rotation: While the Moon does rotate, its rotation period is the same as its orbital period around Earth (about 27.3 days). This synchronization means the same side always faces us.

Therefore, even though the far side of the moon receives sunlight for half of its rotation, we on Earth never see it directly. We only see the near side.
