  • Common Characteristics of Planets in Our Solar System | Space Exploration
All planets in our solar system share the following characteristics:

    * Orbit the Sun: This is the defining feature of a planet. They are gravitationally bound to the Sun and travel in an elliptical orbit around it.

    * Have cleared their neighborhood: This means they have become gravitationally dominant in their orbital region, having cleared away most other objects.

    * Are not a star: This distinguishes them from dwarf planets like Pluto, which haven't cleared their neighborhood.

Let me know if you'd like to know more about any of these characteristics!
