    The Hubble Space Telescope doesn't actually operate in the atmosphere. It orbits Earth about 340 miles above the planet, well beyond the Earth's atmosphere. This is crucial for its operation because:

    * No atmospheric distortion: The Earth's atmosphere constantly distorts and blurs the light from celestial objects, making it difficult to see them clearly. By being above the atmosphere, Hubble avoids this issue and captures incredibly sharp images.

    * Access to all wavelengths: The atmosphere blocks certain wavelengths of light, such as ultraviolet and infrared. Hubble's location in space allows it to observe these wavelengths, revealing information that would be impossible to gather from Earth.

    Therefore, Hubble's position outside the atmosphere is essential for its success in capturing the universe's beauty and providing valuable scientific data.
