  • Understanding the Moon's Phases: A 29.5-Day Cycle
There's no such thing as an "8-phase moon".

The moon goes through 8 phases in its cycle, but the length of the cycle itself is about 29.5 days.

Here are the 8 phases of the moon:

    1. New Moon: Invisible to the naked eye.

    2. Waxing Crescent: Thin sliver of the moon visible, growing larger.

    3. First Quarter: Half of the moon is illuminated.

    4. Waxing Gibbous: More than half of the moon is illuminated, getting fuller.

    5. Full Moon: Entire face of the moon is illuminated.

    6. Waning Gibbous: More than half of the moon is illuminated, getting smaller.

    7. Last Quarter: Half of the moon is illuminated.

    8. Waning Crescent: Thin sliver of the moon visible, getting smaller.

Let me know if you have any other questions about the moon!
