Here's why:
* Binary and Multiple Star Systems: A surprisingly high percentage of stars exist in binary (two stars orbiting each other) or multiple star systems (more than two stars). Estimates suggest that around 85% of stars are part of a binary or multiple star system.
* Observational Bias: We tend to see single stars more easily because they are brighter and stand out. Finding faint stars in binary systems can be much more challenging.
So, while single stars are common, they are outnumbered by stars in binary and multiple star systems.
