  • Jupiter's Great Red Spot: A 350+ Year Storm - Origins & Mystery
The Great Red Spot on Jupiter has been raging for at least 350 years, possibly much longer. It was first observed in the 17th century.

Here's why we can't be certain about its exact age:

    * Limited early observations: While there are records from the 1600s, observations were less frequent and less detailed than they are today.

    * Possible earlier storms: It's possible that the Great Red Spot is a continuation of an even older storm.

    * Constantly evolving: The Great Red Spot is not static. It shrinks and grows, changes shape and color, and its intensity varies over time.

While we can't pinpoint the exact start date, the Great Red Spot is one of the longest-lasting storms in our solar system.
