  • Circumpolar Stars: What Are They & Why Are They Special?
Stars located near the Earth's poles that can be seen year-round at all times of night are called circumpolar stars.

    Here's why:

    * Circumpolar: This term means "circling around a pole."

    * Year-round visibility: Due to the Earth's rotation and the fact that these stars are very close to the celestial poles, they never dip below the horizon as seen from a specific latitude.

    * All times of night: Since they never set, they are visible throughout the entire night.

Example: Polaris (the North Star) is a famous circumpolar star visible from the Northern Hemisphere.
