  • Understanding Stellar Evolution: The Main Sequence Stage
The third stage in the life cycle of a star is the main sequence. Here's why:

    * Stage 1: Nebula: A star begins as a giant cloud of gas and dust called a nebula.

    * Stage 2: Protostar: Gravity pulls the nebula together, causing it to heat up and form a protostar.

    * Stage 3: Main Sequence: The protostar's core gets hot enough for nuclear fusion to start, where hydrogen atoms fuse to form helium and release tremendous energy. This is the main sequence stage, where a star spends the majority of its life.
