  • Jupiter's Light: Does It Generate Its Own?
The Sun does not give Jupiter light. Instead, the Sun reflects light onto Jupiter.

    Here's why:

    * Jupiter doesn't produce its own light. It's a gas giant, not a star.

    * The Sun is a star. It generates its own light and heat through nuclear fusion.

    * Jupiter reflects sunlight. Like the Moon, Jupiter reflects the light that shines on it from the Sun.

That's why we see Jupiter in the night sky - we're seeing the sunlight that's bouncing off its surface!
