  • Moonquakes & Seismometers: How Astronauts Studied Lunar Tremors
The device astronauts used to study extremely weak moonquakes was a seismometer.

Specifically, the Apollo missions deployed passive seismometers on the Moon. These instruments measured the ground motion caused by moonquakes, as well as other seismic events like meteorite impacts.

While we often think of earthquakes, the term "seismometer" is the general term for an instrument that measures ground motion.
