  • Star Formation: How Gravity Ignites Nuclear Fusion
    Stars are born when gravity pulls gas and dust together with enough pressure to ignite nuclear fusion.

    Here's why:

    * Gravity's Role: Gravity acts as the primary force in star formation. It pulls together vast clouds of gas and dust, known as nebulae.

    * Pressure Build-up: As more material is drawn in, the core of the collapsing nebula gets denser and hotter. This increases the pressure tremendously.

    * Nuclear Fusion Ignition: Eventually, the pressure and temperature in the core reach a critical point where hydrogen atoms fuse together to form helium. This process, called nuclear fusion, releases an immense amount of energy, providing the outward pressure that balances gravity and stabilizes the star.

    So, the pressure created by gravity is essential for triggering the nuclear fusion reactions that power stars and allow them to shine.
