  • The Origin of Leo: Who Named the Lion Constellation?
The constellation Leo (the Lion) was named by the ancient Babylonians.

While the constellation has been observed and named in various cultures throughout history, the Babylonian name, "UR.GU.LA," which translates to "The Lion," is one of the oldest recorded names for this celestial grouping.

The Babylonians associated the constellation with their lion-headed god, Marduk.
