  • Moonlight: Does the Moon Produce Its Own Light?
The moon is not a light source. It reflects light from the sun.

    Here's why:

    * The moon doesn't produce its own light: It's a large, rocky body orbiting the Earth.

    * Sunlight illuminates the moon: When sunlight hits the moon's surface, some of it gets reflected back towards Earth. This reflected light is what we see as moonlight.

Think of it like a mirror: A mirror doesn't generate light, it simply reflects light that hits it.
