  • Origin of the Word 'Planet': Understanding its Ancient Meaning
The word "planet" comes from the ancient Greek word "planētēs," which literally means "wanderer" or "straggler."

This is because, unlike the stars which appear fixed in the sky, planets move across the celestial sphere over time, hence their wandering nature. This was observed by early astronomers and gave rise to the name.
