Here's how it works:
* The Pointer Stars: The two stars at the end of the Big Dipper's "bowl" are called the Pointer Stars.
* Finding North: Imagine a line drawn between the Pointer Stars and extend it upwards about five times the distance between them. This line will point you towards Polaris, the North Star.
* Compass Points: Once you've located Polaris, you can use it to find the other cardinal directions:
* South: Directly opposite Polaris
* East: To the right of Polaris (when facing North)
* West: To the left of Polaris (when facing North)
Important Note: This method is most accurate in the Northern Hemisphere.
