  • Sirius vs. Other Stars: Understanding Stellar Brightness
There is no star brighter than Sirius in our night sky. Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky as seen from Earth.

However, there are stars in our galaxy that are intrinsically brighter than Sirius, but they are much farther away and appear dimmer to us. For example, Rigel (in the constellation Orion) is about 40,000 times brighter than Sirius, but it is much farther away.
