  • Discovery of the First Exoplanet: A Timeline & Key Details
The first planet orbiting another star, also known as an exoplanet, was discovered in 1992.

This discovery was made by Aleksander Wolszczan and Dale Frail using the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. They found two planets orbiting a pulsar called PSR B1257+12. Pulsars are rapidly spinning neutron stars that emit regular radio waves.

It's important to note that while this was the first confirmed exoplanet discovery, there were earlier claims and observations that were later proven incorrect or inconclusive.
