  • Sun vs. Milky Way: Understanding Their Scale & Size
The Milky Way is much bigger than the Sun.

    Here's why:

    * The Sun is a star, a massive ball of hot gas that produces light and heat through nuclear fusion. It's about 1.4 million kilometers in diameter.

    * The Milky Way is a spiral galaxy, a vast collection of billions of stars, gas, dust, and dark matter. It's about 100,000 light-years across.

To put it into perspective, the Sun could fit across the Milky Way galaxy about 7 million times.
