    The light microscope came first.

    * Light microscopes were invented in the late 16th or early 17th century, with the invention of the compound microscope usually attributed to Zacharias Janssen around 1590.

    * Electron microscopes were not invented until the 1930s, with the first practical model appearing in 1931.

    So, light microscopy has a much longer history than electron microscopy.
