  • Mercury: The Planet with a Locked Rotation - Why One Side Always Faces the Sun
    The planet that only shows one side to the sun is Mercury.

    This is because Mercury's rotation period (the time it takes to spin once on its axis) is exactly the same as its orbital period (the time it takes to orbit the sun). This phenomenon is called synchronous rotation.

    So, while Mercury spins, it does so at the same rate that it orbits the sun, meaning the same side always faces the sun.
