1. Arctic Air Mass (cA): This air mass originates over the Arctic Ocean and is extremely cold and dry. It brings frigid temperatures, strong winds, and often heavy snow to the northern and central parts of the country.
2. Continental Polar Air Mass (cP): This air mass forms over landmasses in Canada and is cold and dry, but not as extreme as the Arctic air mass. It often brings clear, sunny skies and relatively mild winter conditions, especially in the southern parts of the US.
These two air masses interact with each other and with other air masses to create the diverse weather patterns experienced across the United States during winter.
