  • Understanding the International Space Station's Orbit: Altitude & Inclination
The International Space Station (ISS) has a nearly circular orbit around Earth, with a period of about 92 minutes. The orbit is oriented at an inclination of about 51.6 degrees to the equator, which means that it passes over most of Earth's surface during each orbit. The orbit is also about 400 kilometers (250 miles) above Earth's surface.
