  • Seeing Uranus: How to Spot the Ice Giant with Your Eyes
Uranus is visible to the naked eye at a magnitude of 5.6 which is the faintest planet that can be seen without any aid. Under good viewing conditions, it appear as a very small disk and requires dark and transparent night sky far from any source of light pollution to be spotted by an experienced observer with sharp eyes. However, using binoculars or a small telescope makes it look as round with a clear light blue-green disc and its color is attributed to absorption of red light by atmospheric methane.
